Investigate the village to find refuge for David and his followers, uncover the fate of the priests of Nob, and discover any hidden resources that could aid in his escape from Saul.

LOCATION SUMMARY

The village of Nob is a small settlement known for its priests, situated not far from the Ark of the Covenant. The village comprises simple stone houses, a central well, and a few agricultural plots surrounding the area. The villagers are wary, having recently suffered the loss of their priests, and rumors of David’s activities circulate. There are hidden areas within the village that may hold secrets or supplies that could be beneficial for those in need.

BASE LOOT

  • Two loaves of barley bread left on a stone altar, a common staple among the villagers.
  • A simple clay jug containing olive oil, essential for cooking and anointing.
  • A worn woolen cloak draped over a fence, indicating someone may have left in haste.
  • A small basket of dried figs, a popular snack for weary travelers.
  • Several wooden tools left in a workshop, including a hammer and a couple of chisels, useful for basic repairs.

ADDITIONAL LOOT IF 6+

  • A hidden cache of herbs and medicinal plants stored in the back of a village healer’s hut, useful for healing.
  • A small pouch containing five silver coins, hidden under a loose floor tile in an abandoned house.
  • Two clay tablets with cuneiform writing, possibly containing inventory records of the village’s supplies.
  • A short spear stashed behind a stack of firewood, indicating a need for self-defense.

ADDITIONAL LOOT IF 10+

  • A tattered scroll detailing the offerings made to God at the sanctuary, shedding light on the priest’s activities.

LOWER WISDOM DISCOVERY

Passive Wisdom (12) required: The character notices that the villagers seem on edge, exchanging whispers and furtive glances, suggesting recent events have left them distrustful.

HIGHER WISDOM DISCOVERY

Passive Wisdom (16) required: The character observes subtle changes in the environment, such as fresh footprints near the well that lead towards the forest, hinting at a hidden escape route.

OPTIONAL EVENT

As the characters search the village, they encounter a nervous villager who, upon being approached, shares their fear of the reprisals from Saul’s men. They may offer to help the characters in exchange for protection or information about David’s whereabouts.
